Reel Weekends #5: Arthur Christmas

Right from the very beginning my kids do not believe in Santa.  Hubby and I explained to them that historically, there was a man named Nicholas who was so generous, loved to give gifts to kids, but he’s long dead and gone.  People all over the years all over the world still somehow believe in this myth of Santa coming on Christmas eve– or parents know he does not exist but somehow find it cute to let their kids believe in this guy in red who rides the sleigh, slips in through the chimney and sneaks in the gifts.

Well, this is what Arthur Christmas is all about.  The movie is so cute, it’s about Arthur who happen to be Santa’s son.  He is in-charged of the “correspondence” with kids.  He wants nothing less than the best for each child.

His brother, on the other hand, is in- charge of the operations and despite of all the high-tech facilities they have to cater to each child all over the globe, THEY MISSED OUT ON ONE KID.  Arthur could not let Christmas pass by with one child so sad she did not receive her much-awaited present from Santa.

This is where Arthur takes over.  This movie is sooo  heartwarming!

Sandra Bullock is back!

Bullock’s success in her 2009 movie, “The Blind Side” was marred with her husband’s unfaithfulness which ended up in bitter divorce.  One of the world’s best-loved actresses was quiet after her break up with ex-husband, as she determined to live a more private, quiet life.

But good news to Sandra fans (myself included).  She is back!  Her upcoming movie stars none other than Tom Hanks.  Their movie, “Extremely loud and incredibly close” is about a story of a man who died in the September 11 bombing in New York.  Minutes before his death, he had a chance to call his wife (Bullock). This scene is believed to be the most touching and heartbreaking part of the movie.

I can’t wait to see it myself!  Welcome back, Sandra.  Your past heartaches can’t get in the way of great projects such as this one. Ok, here’s a spoiler… the movie’s trailer.

Reel Weekends 4: Ghost Protocol

Before anything else, Merry Christmas, everyone!  I am so sorry for the delay of this post.  It’s still a weekend so I guess it’s really not that late! :)

Hubby and I went out for movies during our anniversary last December 21st. I am not a fan of action movies, but we ran out of options that time. We ended up watching Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, Tom Cruise’s latest movie.

I have to say that it was great.  Initially, movie critics expressed doubts about whether or not Brad Bird (director of Impossibles, Ratatuoille and the Iron Giant) could pull this off.  And now he is showered with praises for a job well done!  The change of director did the trick.  I loved the scene in Dubai where Ethan Hunt (Cruise) climbed the tallest building in the world, Burj Khalifa.

The Ghost Protocol is a good comeback for Cruise.  This action-packed movie is a must-see.
